Binky Smith called a few days ago to tell us Chevrolet had sent a check to refund us for the new LRT tailgate support cables. We didn’t get the check yet, but we got one of our summer property tax bills and a bill for the cabin insurance. The weather forecast says we’ll have no rain for a few days. It was 53° when we got up, big NNW windy with whitecaps on the bay, but clear blue skies by breakfast time. The coffee was gone again before 9:00. I did a couple of sudoku waiting for the day to warm up, and wrote to legislators about the folly of ‘cap and trade’ on CO2 emissions. Later on, I wrote about the stupidity of the 54¢ tax on imported ethanol. Most of you have seen copies of those notes. Please find a way to tell your congressmen about what a rotten lousy job they’re doing running the country. We went for a walk in the chill and the wind down to Bosleys’ to bail the boat and found it wasn’t all that chilly windy on the road. We continued west to complete our usual ‘short walk’. Mary went to the dock to find lots of minnows in her trap. We’ll go fishing some time when the water’s calmer, wind is mild or gone. When I went to the recycle trailer about lunch time, another guy there threw his keys in with the messes of plastic bottles and had to climb in to look for them. I didn’t laugh until I was driving away. Joe, Dale, and Merwin were here to play bridge this afternoon. Mary said she did better (placewise) than last time but could have played a couple of hands better than she did. I had a couple of things to do at the cabin but I wanted an ‘extra pair of hands’ and something to do here that needs an ‘extra pair of hands’ - all deferred to another time, and I could have mowed grass here but decided instead to have a nap. It was windy but sunny on the big deck toaday, shade temperature about 68°, so we could have a little Hoppy Hour outdoors. Mary made us a dressed up store pizza for toaday’s simple dinner. Good: meat, dairy, vegetables, fruit, (bread). We want to get out to the cabin a few times this weekend to replace the back door screen door, clean up the trash pile behind the shed, maybe recover some hardwood firewood that’s been aging too many years, and work on the lawn. We have yard work and painting to do here at the house, too. I can’t understand why CO2 emissions are so high on the socialists’ agenda when CO2 pales in comparison to water vapor as a ‘greenhouse gas’ and anthropogenic CO2 is such a trivial part of the natural balance. I compare the CO2 hullabaloo to stomping one ant in a yard full of anthills. |
